Last post I talked about ways to make your resolutions work. If you missed it, check it out here.
Mark and I collaborated on some thoughts and ideas. Today, we are giving you some of what we think are the best tips on how to make this year the healthiest version of YOU!
Side Bar: I am doing all the talking here per usual, but give Mark a shout out if you like this post!!
How To Achieve a Healthier Body:
⇒ Get a fitness app or 2 or 3! Apps are a sure way to keep you motivated while you are able to stay on track with your fitness goals and current stats. Being able to see your workout progression is a positive way to keep you going back for more!! (If you don’t want to use an app, get a fitness journal.)
⇒ Get a fitness tracker! I am partial to the Fitbit, but there are lots of options. Do some research and join the club… everybody’s doing it! It’s a fantastic way to keep with your own fitness progress and you can also use it as a way to hold you and your friends accountable. If your the competitive type, like Mark, then you can also make some bets and challenges with your friends as well!
⇒ Get a food tracking app. You can learn so much about your diet, and how it affects you. You just have to start keeping track of what you consume. Is it a pain in the butt??? YES… but your future health depends on it! Give it a try. It won’t hurt cha. Remember, the end result is 70-80% diet and 20-30% exercise. (If you don’t want to use an app, get a food journal.)
⇒ Last week, I introduced the Sweat Stash Jar. If you missed it, check it out here. Who doesn’t need motivation to buy something they really want??? I got mine started. Just put in $1 every time you exercise. Then set a goal. I have missed just 2 days of working out since the New Year! I have over $12 saved already. I can only imagine what your kids will think of this idea if it gets us adults this excited! So go ahead and start a jar for every family member that is able to understand the concept!
⇒ Take transition photos. When you find yourself getting sad or upset that you don’t see the results you had hoped and prayed for… go through your phone and dig out those old photos. The photos don’t lie. You will be sure to see a difference and that will keep you encouraged.
⇒ Check out healthy recipes, and plan at least one new, healthier meal for dinner each week that everyone in your house can enjoy. You never know, it may make the weekly menu!
⇒ Meal prep: I have mentioned the importance of this one so many times. Pick a day that you have off or the day you go grocery shopping, etc., and plan out meals for everyone for a few days… or longer if possible. I actually have a hard time knowing what I want after 2 days, so I prep my cooked carbs like rice, quinoa or sweet potatoes just so I have them ready to go and on hand when I need them. Then I can make last minute decisions on meat and veggies!
⇒ Remember that you don’t have to cook every day for hours in order to eat healthy. There are great options that takes minutes to prepare. Canned goods such as: tuna, salmon, beans and tomatoes are a great addition to any meal. Rotisserie chicken and turkey are a quick way to eat real meat in just seconds… and also make great leftovers. Frozen veggies and fruit are a great way to get those out of season foods in your diet and also easy to prepare for quick meals.
⇒ Share your goals with others to help you stay accountable!
⇒ Find a workout buddy or group that has similar goals and workout interests. Mark and I both have a few scheduled workouts with friends throughout the week and that holds us accountable to show up! Hey, let’s be real… it’s the truth…sometimes that’s all it takes!
Ways To Achieve a Healthier Mind:
⇒ Read positive blogs, books and stories from others who set out to inspire you… not hinder your capabilities.
⇒ Meditate or pray…or both. Whatever works for you, just do it.
⇒ Find an inspiring quote for the day and let it feed your soul like it was written to do. I think it’s so amazing how we spend time searching for the “right” quote when in actuality that quote found you!
⇒ Journal your thoughts. If you are journaling your workouts and foods… then this is a perfect way to jot down your thoughts for the day. When you have documentation of your workouts, food intake and thoughts for each day, you have the perfect opportunity to see how and why you may be feeling the way you did each day. This is also helpful for when your doctor and/or nutritional professional and trainers are needing more information when trying to help trouble shoot any issue that you encounter while trying to achieve your goals.
⇒ Schedule down time and personal time. You need both in order to succeed with anything in life!
⇒ Schedule some time to unplug from social media. This is a part of some of the suggestions above, but sometimes we just need a gentle reminder.
⇒ Listen to music. More and more research is proving how effective music is to our total wellbeing!
Always remember that BALANCE and MODERATION are the keys to success. You can’t “diet” and “cleanse” forever. You can’t avoid exercise all together either. Take control of your body and mind and your future self will thank you!
Namaste! Oh wait… before you close out… check out this yummy healthy and clean eating recipe!
It’s ZOODLES! Who doesn’t like Zoodles? OK who doesn’t know what zoodles are?
So you may have seen this veggie alternative to grain noodles, but you take fresh zucchini and a spiralizer and go to town!
I just simply spiral my zucchini using a Spiralizer.
Next, I toss the zoodles in salt (not too much) and let it sit in a colander for 20 minutes.
Then, you heat up butter ( ~1TB) in a frying pan. Pat zoodles dry after 20 minutes.
In the pan, toss in the zoodles and garlic powder and sauté on med-high for 4-5 minutes. Stir often to prevent scorching.
Remove and plate!
For my marinara, I simply used jar sauce (you can find healthier sauces. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t make your sauce from scratch – I sure don’t. I don’t have the time or energy to waste on red sauce. I am not Italian – I am Southern and make a mean homemade Creole Sauce). I added fresh cooked ground beef and fresh sautéed mushrooms and onions. I did top it with fresh grated Parm cheese.
Enjoy and make 2016 your healthiest year ever!!
Tell me how you like the Zoodles and stay tuned for some giveaways coming very soon!!
